Be Selfish.
When you give to Special Olympics, you get an instant return that’s so great you’ll feel selfish. And that’s just fine with us.
"Volunteer to Cheer" at Special Olympic Virginia’s largest annual statewide competition, the Summer Games. This June 12 and 13 at the University of Richmond and St. Christopher's School, more than 1,300 athletes from across Virginia will go for the gold in bowling, powerlifting, softball, swimming, track and field and tennis. And we need you to fill the stands with your enthusiasm, because it’s truly not as special without the fans!
FREE Cheer Sticks for Volunteers!
The first 2,500 volunteers on-site at select Summer Games venues will receive free cheer sticks to wave, clap and make some noise as Special Olympics Virginia athletes go for the gold!
Remember to visit www.volunteer2cheer.com for detailed information on Summer Games events, venues and family friendly activities like the Olympic Festival at St. Christopher’s School.
We hope to see and hear you in the stands on June 12 and 13!
Join the Campaign to Ban the “R” Word!
Negative stereotypes of people with intellectual disabilities are kept alive when people use demeaning words. Too often, people say "retard" or "retarded" without thinking about the effects these words have on others -- even if it's not meant in a mean way.
If you are not sure how to refer to someone with intellectual disabilities, why not just call them by their name? That's what they really want; to be thought of as no different from you or me.
You might be surprised that you actually have more in common with Special Olympians than not...many of our athletes like music, dancing, talking about sports, movies – just like you.
Intellectual disabilities know no boundaries. They touch everyone. A person with an intellectual disability could be your sister, your brother, your neighbor, your teammate, your classmate, your mentor, or your teacher. Most importantly, a person with an intellectual disability can be your friend.
Join Special Olympics Virginia and other Special Olympics programs across the world as we come together to ban the “R” word. You can visit www.volunteer2cheer today and sign the “R” word pledge today. If we all take responsibility for the power that words have on others, we all win!
McGeorge Cares....
The McGeorge Car Company is committed to helping make Richmond a great place to work, play, learn and raise a family. With that continued commitment in mind, beginning in 2007, our dealerships will feature a, local community-focused organization each month to help raise awareness and generate support for the services that organization provides to Central Virginia residents.
Through the McGeorge Cares program, we hope to raise awareness and support for these very worthwhile community partners as they continue to provide care to our most challenged neighbors and citizens.
